Yechun Garden is both a classical garden and the most historically celebrated teahouse in Yangzhou — a combination that is entirely natural in a city where gardens and refined meals have been inseparable for centuries. The teahouse has operated on this site since the Qing Dynasty and serves the traditional Yangzhou morning tea (zaochao) in pavilions overlooking the garden's pool and rockeries.
The morning tea here is a set of small dishes served over a long, unhurried breakfast: steamed buns, crystal pork, thousand-layer tofu skin, pickled vegetables, and the small soup dumplings specific to Yangzhou. The experience combines good food with a genuine garden setting. It is popular with local residents — the tables fill early, particularly on weekends — and is most atmospheric on weekday mornings when the pace is unhurried.
