Lushan is the major mountain excursion from Jiujiang, rising above the Yangtze plain with cliffs, forests, temples, old villas, and cooler summer air. Its long history as a retreat for officials, writers, missionaries, and political leaders gives the mountain more layers than a simple scenic viewpoint.
The area deserves planning because distances, entrances, and transport can be confusing on a quick visit. For travellers based in Jiujiang, however, Lushan is the strongest nearby day trip and one of Jiangxi's most important landscapes.
