Dandong's seafood is the practical reason to eat well here. The city sits at the Yalu River mouth, and the docks supply restaurants throughout the centre with yellow croaker, razor clams, and Yalu River crab that are fresher and cheaper than in Shenyang or Dalian. The riverfront and the area around the bus station have the highest concentration of seafood restaurants. Korean food — brought by the ethnic Korean community that has lived in this border region for generations — is available throughout the city and is more authentic than what you will find in most Chinese cities.
