Chengtian Temple Pagoda

Tall brick pagoda in old Yinchuan, tied to the Buddhist legacy of the Western Xia.

Chengtian Temple Pagoda is one of old Yinchuan's clearest historical landmarks, a tall brick tower rising from a temple compound in the city centre. The site is associated with the Western Xia period, the Tangut kingdom whose tombs and Buddhist remains give Ningxia much of its historic depth.

The pagoda is best visited with the nearby old-city streets and museums rather than as an isolated stop. Its value is partly visual, as a vertical marker in a fast-changing city, and partly historical, linking modern Yinchuan to a kingdom that once controlled a wide stretch of northwest China.
