Honghegu Forest Park

Honghegu (Red River Valley) Forest Park is the main access point for hiking in the mountains west of Baoji city, and the starting point for the ascent of Mount Taibai. The park sits in a steep-sided valley where the Honghegu stream cuts down through limestone and sandstone formations, creating waterfalls, pools, and narrow gorges. The forest in the lower valley is dense mixed woodland; higher up, above 2,000 metres, it transitions to conifer and rhododendron scrub.

The park is about 50 kilometres west of Baoji by road. A single-day visit to the lower valley with its waterfalls and forest paths is feasible as a half-day from Baoji; climbing to the upper mountain requires an early start or an overnight in the park guesthouse. The park is most visited in late spring (May–June) when the rhododendrons are in bloom and in October when the autumn colours are at their peak.
