Korean District

Weihai's Korean district is one of the more unusual neighborhoods in Shandong — a genuinely Korean-influenced urban area that emerged from the city's proximity to South Korea (94 nautical miles across the strait) and the large Korean expat and student population that settled here in the 1990s and 2000s. The Korean-language signage, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and night market are not a tourist performance: they serve an actual community.

The food is the main draw for visitors: Korean barbecue, bibimbap, Korean fried chicken, and a range of street snacks that are markedly different from standard Shandong fare. The night market that runs in warmer months has a distinctly Korean character. The district is near the city center and easily reached on foot or by short taxi ride.
