Shanghai's drinking scene is the deepest in China and probably the most varied in Asia. The French Concession is the obvious starting point — Yongkang Lu and the streets around it have everything from cocktail bars and natural-wine bottle shops to grungy late-night spots. For rooftop views, head to the Bund (Bar Rouge, Lost Heaven) or up into one of the Pudong towers. The third-wave coffee scene is excellent: small roasters from Manner, % Arabica and Seesaw are everywhere. Beers are cheap, cocktails are not.
