The rooftop bars and restaurants in the upper floors of the Bund's colonial buildings are a Shanghai institution, offering elevated views of the Pudong skyline with the Huangpu River in between. Bund 18 (the former Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China building) and the Bund Finance Centre have the most active food and beverage operations at height.
The bars here — M on the Bund, Bar Rouge (on the 7th floor of Bund 18), Glam — are expensive by Shanghai standards but the view justifies a single drink. The evening peak, from 7–10 pm, has the best combination of light and atmosphere; the full darkness of later evening is more dramatic but loses the dusk colour on the Pudong towers.
