Dongjiadu Cathedral

Dongjiadu Cathedral is a 19th-century Catholic church built by Spanish Jesuits near the Huangpu River. It was once the seat of the Bishop of Shanghai, and its position just outside the old city wall reflects the layered religious geography of treaty-port Shanghai.

The area around the church has seen heavy redevelopment, so check access before making a special trip. Even from outside, it is a useful marker of the older Catholic presence south of the Bund and the Old City.
