Lu Xun Park

Hongkou park containing the tomb of writer Lu Xun and a morning tai chi crowd

The main park of Hongkou district, Lu Xun Park contains the tomb of Lu Xun — China's most important modern literary figure — in the northeast corner, and a memorial hall adjacent to it. The park itself is a pleasant public green space used by Hongkou residents for morning exercise, weekend recreation, and the outdoor gatherings of retired people that characterize Chinese urban parks.

Lu Xun lived in Hongkou for the last decade of his life and died here in 1936; his former residence on Shanyin Road, a short walk from the park, is preserved as a memorial. The combination of the park, the former residence, and the nearby Duolun Road literary street forms a coherent Lu Xun itinerary in the neighbourhood.
