The Jing'an district has developed a concentration of cocktail bars and late-night venues around the Nanjing Road West and Changshu Road area that is less tourist-saturated than the French Concession bar scene but equally capable. The neighbourhood's high-end residential population (serviced apartments for international business executives) supports a bar scene calibrated to local regular customers rather than visitors.
The Cotton Club (if still operating) and the surrounding streets between Changshu Road and Jing'an Temple have live jazz bars operating from the 1930s tradition and a newer generation of cocktail bars that emerged after 2010. The evenings here are more local-feeling than the Yongkang or Xintiandi bar strips.
