Wuding Road (Food Street)

Wuding Road food street in Jing'an with casual restaurants and weekend market stalls

Wuding Road in Jing'an has developed since the 2010s as one of Shanghai's better concentrated dining streets — a mixture of Shanghainese home cooking restaurants, hand-pulled noodle shops, Sichuan specialists, and newer Japanese and Korean businesses serving the neighbourhood's mixed resident population.

The street is less famous than Yongkang Road in the French Concession or the Xintiandi restaurant clusters, which means prices are lower and the restaurants are more consistently local-serving. The Shanghai home cooking establishments on Wuding Road represent the cuisine in its least adjusted form — braised pork belly, lion's head meatballs, drunken chicken — at prices that reflect neighbourhood rather than destination eating.
