Nanjing Road

The busiest shopping street in China, running from the Bund to People's Square

The 5.5-kilometre commercial spine of central Shanghai, the eastern half pedestrianised between the Bund and People's Square. It is one of the busiest shopping streets in the world, with department stores, neon, hawkers, and a small tourist train trundling tourists from one end to the other. The west end — Nanjing West Road — leads to luxury malls and the Jing'an Temple district. The east end is closer to a fairground.

Worth walking once for the spectacle, even if the actual shopping is not particularly interesting. The Bund Sightseeing Tunnel entrance is at the eastern foot.
