A dark, panelled bar on the ground floor of the Fairmont Peace Hotel — the iconic green-pyramid-roofed Art Deco landmark on the Bund. The house jazz band, an institution since the 1980s, plays Shanghainese standards from the 1930s and 40s; some of the original musicians are well into their eighties. Drinks are expensive (around 100 RMB for a beer) but the room and the music are worth it once.
