At 632 metres the second-tallest building in the world, and a beautifully strange one — a twisting glass column that rotates 120 degrees as it rises, partly to deflect typhoon winds. The observation deck on the 118th floor is reached by some of the fastest elevators ever built (around 18 m/s) and offers the best view in Shanghai on a clear day. Try to time the visit for the hour either side of sunset to catch both the daylight skyline and the city lighting up.
