Shanghai Wild Animal Park is a large safari-style zoo in outer Pudong, with drive-through sections and walking areas for animals from China and farther afield. It takes real time to reach from central Shanghai, so it is best treated as a half-day family outing rather than a quick stop.
The scale is the reason to come. You will see more open enclosures and more room than at many city zoos, though the experience is still structured and busy. It makes most sense for travellers with children or a specific interest in wildlife attractions.
