The Wukang Mansion at the north end of Wukang Road — where the road meets Huaihai Road in a sweeping curve — is a 1924 French-style apartment building with a distinctive triangular facade that follows the convergence of two streets. The building is the most photographed architecture in the French Concession and the defining image of the district's pre-war residential character.
The building is residential and not accessible to the public inside; the exterior facade, photographed from the pavement in front, is the point. The café beneath and around the building are tourist-facing but acceptable for a coffee while looking at the facade. The street intersection here — Wukang Road and Huaihai Road converging at an acute angle — is one of the most spatially distinctive moments in the French Concession.
