The Hukou Waterfall sits on the Shanxi-Shaanxi border, about 150 km west of Linfen and roughly 300 km from Taiyuan. The most common approach from the Shanxi side is by bus from Linfen to Jixian County, then a local bus or taxi south to the falls scenic area — the journey from Linfen takes around three hours in total. Direct tourist buses from Linfen operate in peak season (July–October); confirm schedules at the Linfen bus station.
Driving is more practical for most visitors coming from Taiyuan. The route via National Highway 309 to Jixian and then south to the falls is well-signed. The Shaanxi side of the border (accessed from Xi'an via Yan'an) offers an alternative approach, and the viewing area on the Shaanxi bank has its own entrance and parking.
