The waterfall changes dramatically with the seasons and every time of year has its advocates. Summer flood season (July–August) brings the maximum water volume and the most spectacular spray and roar, but also the most tourists and summer heat on the open plateau. Spring melt (March–April) produces a good combination of substantial flow and clear light. Autumn (September–October) is the most pleasant for walking the area, with cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
Winter is unexpectedly interesting: the reduced flow exposes the rock channel and ice formations build along the cliff faces, creating a stark, monochrome version of the site that most visitors never see. Temperatures can drop well below zero and road conditions may be poor, but the falls themselves remain accessible.
