Jincheng's great strength is its cluster of intact Ming and Qing fortified villages in the mountains northeast of the city. These are the main reason to come, and they reward a full day or two of exploration. The city itself is quiet but holds the Yuhuang Temple with its remarkable Song-dynasty astronomical sculptures.
