Spring and autumn are the most pleasant seasons for Linfen. The Fen River valley can be hot and dusty in summer, with temperatures regularly above 35°C in July and August — outdoor site visits in full heat are uncomfortable. Autumn (October–November) is cooler and the air quality is often better than summer. Spring brings blossom along the river valley and is good for the Yao Temple gardens.
The Yao Miao Fair at the Yao Temple takes place around the traditional Qingming festival period in early April — a folk market and performance event that draws crowds from across the region and gives a sense of the temple's living ritual function.
