Dongxiafeng Bronze Age Site, Xia County

The Dongxiafeng archaeological site in Xia County, about 40 km northeast of Yuncheng, is one of the most significant early Bronze Age sites in China. Excavations have revealed a substantial settlement with evidence of organised copper smelting, craft production, and social stratification dating to approximately 2000–1500 BCE — placing it at or near the transition from the legendary Xia dynasty (if the Xia existed) to the historically attested Shang. The site's location in the Yuncheng basin, close to the salt lake, suggests that salt production may have been a driver of the region's early complexity.

The site itself is not developed for general visitors — there is no on-site museum or organised visitor infrastructure — but scholars and those with a specific interest in early Chinese archaeology visit to see the excavation areas and the regional museum materials. The Yuncheng Museum displays key finds from the site.
