The Jinsha Site Museum in the western suburbs of Chengdu occupies the actual excavation site where one of China's most significant archaeological discoveries was made in 2001. The main building straddles the live excavation pits, allowing visitors to look down at ongoing work through glass floors while exhibits explain the finds and their context.
The collection includes extraordinary examples of Shu kingdom goldsmithing — particularly the famous "Sun and Immortal Bird" gold foil, now used as China's cultural heritage symbol. Bronze masks, jade ritual objects, and tusks round out an exceptional display. Combined with the Sanxingdui Museum (40 km away), the two sites together tell the story of one of the least understood ancient civilizations. Metro Line 2 or Line 4 to Jinsha.
