Dujiangyan's centrepiece is the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, one of the great engineering achievements of antiquity and a UNESCO World Heritage Site still in active use after 2,300 years. The Erwang Temple sits on the hill above, honouring the father-and-son engineers who built it. Fifteen kilometres to the south, Qingcheng Mountain offers a quieter alternative to the busy irrigation park: a forested Daoist sacred mountain with ancient temples scattered along its paths. The city also has its own giant panda base, operated by the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda, with volunteer opportunities not available at the Chengdu facilities.
