Shigatse's main draw is the Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the largest and most important monasteries in Tibet. Beyond that, the ruins of the old dzong and the traditional market quarter reward an afternoon of wandering. Most travellers pass through on the Friendship Highway and stay one or two nights.
