Hemu lies beyond Burqin in the high valleys of the Altay Mountains, known for wooden houses, Tuvan and Kazakh herding culture, and autumn views that have become famous across China. Burqin is the practical staging point for getting there.
The route is long enough to deserve planning: permits, seasonal transport rules, and weather all matter. The reward is a village landscape that feels far removed from Xinjiang's desert image.
