The Kaba River valley northwest of Burqin leads toward another stretch of Altay border country, with grasslands, forested slopes, and scattered Kazakh settlements. It is less famous than Kanas, which is part of its appeal.
Travellers with a driver and extra time can use it to see a quieter version of the same northern Xinjiang landscape: big sky, cold rivers, and long distances between villages.
