Tuyoq Valley

Desert valley near Turpan with mud-brick village lanes, vineyards, and Buddhist cave remains

Tuyoq Valley is one of the most atmospheric excursions from Turpan, a narrow desert settlement where grape trellises, mud-brick houses, and dry cliffs sit close together. It feels older and less polished than many of Xinjiang's big scenic stops, which is exactly the point.

The valley also has Buddhist cave remains and a long history as an oasis stop, though access and preservation conditions can change. Go with a driver or guide who understands the current rules, and treat the village as a living place rather than a backdrop.
