Beaches

Limassol's beaches divide into three main zones. The city beaches between the old town and the eastern tourist strip are organized and convenient, with sun loungers, showers, and nearby cafés, but the sand is narrow and the water at the city end can be murky. Further east, past Amathous, the beaches improve considerably — Governors Beach (about 20 km east) has striking dark sand and limestone formations, clean water, and a clutch of seafood restaurants at the base of the cliffs. Check locally for seasonal bus services to Governors Beach.

West of the city, Lady's Mile is the best option: a long, relatively undeveloped sandy beach that stretches toward the Akrotiri salt lake, popular with windsurfers and good for birdwatching during migration seasons. There is no bus service to Lady's Mile; a car or taxi is necessary.
