The main shopping street is Makariou III Avenue in Ktima, the upper town — banks, jewellers and clothing shops along a single straight stretch. The open-air municipal market at the north end is the place for fruit, olives and halloumi.
Down in Kato Paphos, the seafront and Tomb of the Kings Avenue are wall-to-wall souvenir shops aimed at tourists. Skip these for the better village potteries: Lemba Pottery Gallery in the nearby village of Lempa sells original vases, mugs and lamps; the Cyprus Handicrafts Service on the corner of Agios Theodoros and Gladstonos Streets carries embroidered linens, basketry and silverwork.
Most shops in Paphos close from about 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and stay shut on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
