Paphos is well placed for day-tripping. Head north along the coast to the wild Akamas Peninsula — empty beaches, hiking trails and the Baths of Aphrodite. Inland, the Troodos mountain villages and painted churches make for a cool break in summer. East along the coast lie the Roman ruins of Kourion above their own crescent of beach, and an hour further on, lace-making Lefkara and the sprawling port city of Limassol.
