When to Go

The best time to visit Srikakulam is from October to February, when the post-monsoon heat has faded and the weather is dry and comfortable. Temperatures drop to around 19°C at night in December and January, making temple visits and coastal walks pleasant. March to June brings increasingly severe heat — often above 40°C — that makes extensive outdoor sightseeing uncomfortable.

The monsoon runs from June to October. Roads to outlying sites like Salihundam can become muddy, and the sea is rough. That said, the Vamsadhara valley turns green and the river temples look their best in the weeks after the rains ease.

Ratha Saptami (January–February) is the most important festival at the Arasavalli Sun Temple, drawing large crowds of pilgrims from across the district and beyond. The solar alignment event — when the sun's rays fall directly on the deity — happens during this period. If you are interested in the spectacle, come then; if you prefer quiet temple visits, come at any other time.
