Guwahati is the entry point for the entire northeast. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Borjhar, 25 km west of the centre) has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bangkok, Dhaka and Singapore, plus regional connections to Imphal, Aizawl, Agartala, Itanagar and Shillong. A pre-paid taxi from the airport to central Guwahati costs around ₹700.
Guwahati Railway Station is in Paltan Bazaar in the city centre. Major trains include the Rajdhani from Delhi (about 30 hours) and several Kolkata trains (about 20 hours). All trains heading further into the northeast — Dibrugarh, Silchar, Naharlagun, Agartala — pass through here.
Long-distance buses run to Shillong (3 hours), Siliguri (12 hours), Tezpur and Jorhat from the inter-state bus terminal at Paltan Bazaar. Shared sumos to Shillong are faster and only slightly more expensive than the bus.
