Agnigarh is the hill most closely tied to Tezpur's old story of Usha, Aniruddha, Banasura, and Krishna. The landscaped path climbs past sculpted scenes from the legend to a lookout over the city and the Brahmaputra.
It is more park than fort now, but it earns its place because the myth still gives Tezpur much of its identity. Go early or late in the day, when the heat drops and the river light improves.
