Asia > India > Assam > Tezpur
Tezpur sits on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, where Assam's river plain begins to lean toward Arunachal Pradesh. It is busy and spread out, but the city has more than gateway value: temple ruins, Shiva shrines, mythological hills, and river viewpoints are folded into ordinary streets and parks.
The best sights make Tezpur feel older than its traffic. Agnigarh turns the Usha and Aniruddha legend into a hilltop walk, Bamuni Hills and Da Parbatia Gate preserve early carved stonework, and Mahabhairab Temple keeps the city's religious life close to the surface.
Tezpur is a good spare-day stop if you are moving between Guwahati, Kaziranga, Nameri, or western Arunachal. Do not expect a polished heritage town. Come instead for a rougher Assam city where myth, archaeology, tea-country roads, and the Brahmaputra all meet.
