Chausath Khamba

Mughal-era white marble mausoleum with 64 pillars in the Nizamuddin Basti

Chausath Khamba — meaning "sixty-four pillars" — is a white marble mausoleum built in 1623–24, likely for Mirza Aziz Koka, a nobleman and foster brother of Emperor Akbar. The building is entirely constructed of white marble and supported by 64 marble pillars arranged in a grid, giving it an unusual lattice-like structure that floods the interior with filtered light.

It stands in the Nizamuddin Basti, close to the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. It is a quieter monument than the nearby Humayun's Tomb but remarkable for its pure architectural expression. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture was involved in its restoration.
