Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah

Sufi shrine of 14th-century saint Nizamuddin Auliya, drawing devotees for Thursday qawwali

The Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is the shrine of the revered Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya (1238–1325), one of the most important Chishti saints in South Asia. The white-marbled complex in the heart of the old Nizamuddin Basti draws tens of thousands of Muslim, Hindu and Sikh pilgrims every week. The lanes leading to the shrine are lined with flower and incense sellers, creating an atmospheric approach.

The highlight for many visitors is the Thursday evening qawwali — devotional Sufi music sung after evening prayers. Singers gather in the open courtyard and perform late into the night, and the crowd's collective devotion creates a uniquely moving experience. Women are permitted in the shrine but should dress conservatively; non-Muslims are welcome throughout.
