Curlies is the most famous beach shack in Anjuna and one of the longest-running on the Goa coast. It started in the 1980s and grew from a single thatched lean-to into a sprawling deck of bamboo platforms at the south end of the beach, with a separate club above the restaurant that runs late into the night.
The food is fresh fish — kingfish, snapper, prawns, calamari — done simply on the tandoor or in a tomato-based xacuti curry. The legend of the place outweighs the cooking, but it is a fine spot for a slow lunch followed by a beer on the loungers as the sun drops.
