Shiva Valley is the small open-air psychedelic trance bar on the rocks at the south end of Anjuna Beach. It is the most consistent of the survivors from the Goa trance scene of the 1990s — a Tuesday all-nighter still goes from dusk to the small hours, with the music played through stacks of speakers half-buried in the sand.
The crowd is a mix of Russians, Israelis, Indians and a steady trickle of older Europeans returning from the original Goa years. Drinks are cheap, the policy is broadly relaxed, and the sound system is taken seriously by everyone involved.
