Village Eateries

A few minutes' walk inland from the beach strip, the village of Colva has small family-run eateries that bear little resemblance to the tourist shacks by the water. They serve fish curry rice — the daily staple of coastal Goa: a bowl of red coconut fish curry alongside steamed rice, usually accompanied by a piece of fried fish or a prawn side. Thalipeeth (a fried flatbread) and rice bhakri are also common.

The food is home-style, the menus are short and change daily, and the prices are well under half what the beachfront restaurants charge. These places typically open for lunch only and close when the food runs out.
