Colva is one of the most popular beaches in South Goa, a long stretch of white sand backed by coconut palms and a scattering of beach shacks. It draws a mix of domestic tourists and longer-stay visitors looking for something more relaxed than the North Goa party beaches.
The Church of Our Lady of Mercy, dating from the 17th century, sits at the heart of the village and is worth a look. The Fama of Colva festival in October draws large crowds. Beyond the main beach strip, things quiet down quickly — walk ten minutes in either direction and you will have the sand mostly to yourself.
Colva works well as a base for exploring South Goa. The nearby beaches of Benaulim and Varca are even quieter, and Margao, the main commercial town of the south, is just a short ride inland.
