Miramar is Panaji's town beach — a long curve of grey-yellow sand running for nearly two kilometres at the mouth of the Mandovi River, three kilometres west of the city centre. It is not the place to come for serious swimming or sunbathing (better beaches lie a short drive north or south), but as an evening promenade it works well: families gather on the sand, kulfi sellers wheel up their carts, and the boats coming in from the Arabian Sea cut across the sunset.
The promenade behind the beach has been recently resurfaced and runs the length of the bay. The Kala Academy, Goa's main cultural centre, sits on the inland side near the eastern end. Reach Miramar by autorickshaw (10 minutes from the centre) or by walking the river-front road. Avoid swimming where the river meets the sea — the currents are strong and unpredictable.
