When to Go

October to March is the pleasant season in Ahmedabad — warm days around 25–30 °C, cool evenings, almost no rain. April to June is brutally hot, with highs over 40 °C and the dry pre-monsoon dust haze. The monsoon arrives in late June and runs through September; temperatures drop but humidity climbs.

Two festivals are worth timing a trip around. Navratri, in October, fills the city with nine nights of Garba and Raas dancing — huge open-air venues, traditional dress, music that shades from folk to pop. It is the biggest Navratri celebration in India. Makar Sankranti on 14 January is the city's legendary kite festival: shops close, every rooftop fills with families, and the sky over Ahmedabad is an absurd patchwork of colour from dawn to dusk, then illuminated kites and paper lanterns after dark.
