Eating Out

Ahmedabad is a vegetarian city by overwhelming majority, and its signature dish is the Gujarati thali — a round platter of small bowls with sweet and savoury dishes, unlimited refills, all for a few hundred rupees. Agashiye on the rooftop of the House of MG hotel and Vishalla on the southern edge of the city are the classic upmarket thali experiences. For day-to-day eating, the C.G. Road and Navrangpura areas concentrate most of the restaurants.

After dark, Manek Chowk transforms from a jewellery bazaar into a street food market that runs until the small hours — pizza-dosa hybrids, ghughra, butter-heavy pav bhaji. It's the centre of Amdavadi late-night eating.
