Junagadh Museum

The Junagadh Museum is housed inside the zoo grounds — an unusual arrangement that means you enter past animal enclosures to reach the collection. The museum has sections on natural history (including stuffed specimens of local wildlife), local archaeology, and the Nawabi era: furniture, weapons, paintings, and an impressive collection of Persian and Sanskrit inscriptions from the Saurashtra region.

The Darbar Hall Museum, in a separate building nearby, occupies the hall where the Nawabs of Junagadh held their court. The collection here focuses on the royal household: portraits, textiles, ceremonial weapons, and the personal effects of the Nawabs. Both museums are modest in scope by major-city standards, but together they give a good account of Junagadh's layered history — Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, and Islamic. Entry fees are low.
