When to Go

November to February is the season. Days are warm and dry (around 25°C), nights pleasantly cool, and the white salt of the Great Rann is at its best — solid enough to walk on, brilliantly reflective at full moon. The Rann Utsav festival runs from early November to late February at Dhordo, with a tented camp, music and crafts.

March and April are hotter (over 35°C) but still bearable. May and June are intense — Bhuj regularly reaches 45°C — and best avoided. The monsoon (July to September) is short and unreliable in Kutch; when it does rain, the Rann floods and is closed, but the desert briefly turns green. October is the shoulder season — hot, but already drawing the first migratory flamingos to the salt flats.
