Bhuj's two great surviving palaces sit side by side in the Darbargadh complex — the 18th-century Aina Mahal with its Venetian glass interiors and the heavily damaged but still imposing Prag Mahal. The Kutch Museum, the oldest in Gujarat, has fine displays of regional embroidery and silverwork. Hamirsar Lake in the centre of town is a pleasant walk at sunset, ringed by ghats and small temples. Outside the city, the Smritivan Earthquake Memorial on Bhujia Hill is one of the most affecting modern museums in India, and the surrounding craft villages of Kutch are the real reason most travellers come — each producing its own distinctive embroidery, mirror work or block-printed cotton.
