The Aji Dam reservoir sits about ten kilometres west of central Rajkot, on the Aji River. The dam itself was built in 1957 and the surrounding park has long been a local weekend favourite: landscaped gardens, a small zoo, a children's amusement area with rides and a toy train, and food stalls. The waterfront is illuminated in the evenings and the place is busiest after sunset.
It is more local family outing than tourist highlight, but a pleasant break from sightseeing in the city centre if you have a vehicle and an afternoon. The new Atal Sarovar overlook on the dam wall is the best photograph. Entrance is cheap and crowds peak on Sundays.
