Chintamani Jain Temple

The Chintamani Jain Temple is one of Surat's most significant religious sites, an ornate Jain temple dedicated to the Chintamani Parshvanatha. The current structure, which has been repeatedly renovated over the centuries, is notable for its elaborately carved marble interior and the quality of its mirror work (sheesh mahal style) decoration.

Jainism has been historically important in Surat — the city's merchant community included many prominent Jain families, and several wealthy Jain traders financed temples and charitable institutions. The temple is an active place of worship and can be visited by respectful non-Jain visitors. Remove shoes before entering, dress modestly, and do not bring leather items inside.
