Surat's sights cluster around two themes: its Mughal-era trading history, visible in the old fort, the colonial cemeteries, and the riverfront; and its contemporary identity as the world's diamond capital, where you can visit polishing workshops if you arrange it in advance. The street food scene is excellent and arguably the best reason to linger.
